5 stars (A must read for any Woman in a "man's" world) - This book is beyond helpful, and is presented in a manner that allows the reader to not only evaluate herself, but to immediately put into action solutions to potential problems. Each chapter is broken down into subjects that can affect a woman's progress up the ladder, with a mistake listed on one page and solutions to apply to the workplace on the next. This is a no-nonsense book that is written by a woman for women, so "quit bein' a girl" and buy this book! The insight and results are more than impressive - they're life changing. 2 stars (Thinly Veiled Misogyny) - With all due respect to Dr. Frankel, I am a 37yr old professional who has been turned down many times for jobs well qualified for and promotions earned because I didn't either kiss the right butt, stab backs or play corporate cut-throat. And I'd hoped this book would help me figure out some way to either fix the problem or discover the root cause. And unfortunately, I walked away from this book feeling allot worse than before. So a warning before reading into it too far. Although Dr. Frankel coaches female professionals to become more successful in the workforce, this book has placing 101 `mistakes' strictly on our heads as a kind of `punishment' for being feminine. Meaning, she claims that we shouldn't act like men, but act less like young girls and more like women. All these mistakes being gleaned from childhood, everything you were taught was wrong and everything boys were taught was right. More than half these mistakes poignantly made several references toward (after working with thousands of women) finding more often than not, `men don't do this, but women do.' As the list went on, I got the distinct impression that there's absolutely no way I could possibly fit into this mould and considering her statement of the mistake of `quit aiming for perfection' then leaving the paradox of being perfect and imperfect at the same time. John Maxwell did a good job of writing a small book packed with useful guidance on how to be an effective leader. He divided the book into three parts. The first part describes how one can develop as a leader, whilst the second part explains the traits of a leader and the last part is on the impact that a leader can have on people. The need for a clear vision as a leader becomes very apparent after reading the book. As a leader one should be aiming at producing a lasting legacy, that is, one should be aiming at making a difference to the lives of others. Followers should be willing to follow you because of the positive influence that you have on people as a good leader. To be an effective leader, one needs to continually develop oneself. High quality leadership entails empowering others to exercise their huge potential for the benefit of the organisation or the team. Followers have to trust you as a leader and trust has to be earned from one's actions. One cannot hope to be an exceptional leader unless one is self-disciplined. This is a fun book with some great ideas in it! My advice? Read it...take notes...and follow the recipe! Dubbed by the media as "Racy Jaci" because of her quick wit and "The Rae of Hope," for her powerful insight. 5 stars (How To Make Adults Cry) - Even before I had a fiance I was a sucker for those proposal shows - every time I saw a real life proposal that they showed on TV, it made me cry. When it was time for me to get engaged I wanted to have a proposal that was endearing, touching and dramatic like the ones I saw on TV. This book was the start of a fantastic proposal that not only was magnificient, it also was featured on the local news and in two of our newspapers. I had some ideas of my own before reading the book, but everything I read really helped me to flesh it out and perfect it. It was definitely worth the investment. A nice bonus were the dozens of photos of some of the actual proposals featured in the book. The ring cost me $3000 so I figured I could spend a little more to make it a proposal of a lifetime and I am glad I did. 1 stars (Don't waste your money) - Don't waste your money on this book, the stories aren't any different than what you can find posted on some web site somewhere. And as far as the tips that go along with the book, you would have to be a retard not to know you shouldn't say "I'll marry you if you lose 20 pounds." Pinnacle PCTV USB2 210100387 TV Tuner and Video Capture Device

3 stars (Does what it says, but...) - As a TV tuner it functions OK. It isn't anything spectacular, but when one considers the comparatively high resolutions that computer monitors produce (as opposed to traditional PAL/NTSC televisions) the quality is rather good. A previous reviewer claimed that the A/V inputs were not functional. That is absolutely false. I currently have my Xbox plugged into it and am playing it windowed on my PC. My complaints are that 1) There is a video lag with the inputs, 2) The provided software is sketchy at best, and 3) Pinncale demands extra money to 'unlock' different encoding methods, (i.e. Mpeg-2, Mpeg-4, VCD, etc.) In short, it does what it says, but that is about it. 1 stars (It's only a TV port, NOT a capture device - BEWARE!!) - If I could give it NO stars I would. IT'S A RIP-OFF!! Those reviewers who found this product OK are only using it as a TV device, not for external video capture. Sure, it works adequately as a TV device (so the one star is probably justified after all) but it is emphatically NOT a video capture port as supplied. Pinnacle's own bundled software does NOT support video input (neither for live display nor for capture) via the temptingly-annotated Composite or S-Video ports. It only 'sees' inputs on the UHF (TV) antenna input. Pinnacle have been promising to include this functionality for over 6 months but, so far, NADA!! Of course, the only way you can get to see the deluge of negative feedback this generates is to purchase the product to gain access to the support forums. The public aren't allowed in... Here's kicker #1 - if you're prepared to spend the same money again Pinnacle will sell you their Studio 9 application which (I THINK) supports these external (non-TV) video inputs. Now for kicker #2 - alternatively you can buy (again for a comparable ADDITIONAL cost) a third-party app called ShowShifter which has absolutely no problem seeing, displaying and capturing the extra inputs in this Pinnacle-...

But she has some outdated ideas on horse training. Compare the advice you get in her book "The Formative Years" with some of the more enlightened trainers published in the last 20 years. 5 stars (A valuable addition to your equestrian library.) - The number of excellent reviews for this book reflect the application to riders of all levels and disciplines. The most valuable aspect of this book is that it encourages the rider to formulate a plan for their schooling sessions and make a conscious decision not to do the same thing day in day out - something we are all guilty of on occasion. Make your schooling sessions more fun for you and your horse with this informative guide. 5 stars (good for both disciplines) - We love this book! Cherry Hill is such a good author, she explains things in such a way that they are understandable and useful, not just a concept that you might not be able to use. 4 stars (For the polyglot) - You get a lot for your money. The nice thing is that you can read and listen to the languages at the same time. I used the French section the most which has 12 basic lessons. The material is reasonably challenging for a good introduction. Each lesson has key sentences, a number of dialogs, and an informative piece of text aimed at tourists, usually several paragraphs. I have actually spent more time with this product for learning French than any other because of the pronunciation help. Don't count on actually having 101 languages, though. The Latin is just a list of aphorisms. Some languages are not covered as well as others. There are also a lot of bells and whistles, such as pronunciation practice, which don't seem to work very well. The languages you probably want to look at all seem to be on different CDs. The software crashes occasionally. Oh well. I may have an older version, but I'm generally happy with it. ...

5 stars (101 Jumping Exercises for Horse & Rider ) - I bought the book originally to add some variety to my training sessions and to obtain ideas on different exercises. Now both my trainer and I do not jump without the book close by. The different grid exercises have added so much to our workouts! Not only has it helped our horses become more confident it has helped our equitation tremendously. I would highly recommend this book for both beginers and the more experienced rider! 5 stars (Perfect book for the hunter/jumper) - I have a fairly green horse, and this book is an amazing help to getting her back and over fences. You can spend more time riding now, instead of having to always think up your own exercises. This book is well worth the money and I would invest in it in a heartbeat if I didn't already own it. 5 stars (Excellent - another must have.) - I haven't even finished reading this book yet, but I just have to say how fabulous it is. I have just started my youngster over fences and have found this guide invaluable already, with 25 exercises involving just ground poles, it is already well used. The exercises build up in difficulty so you are always making progress and at the same time having fun and educational schooling sessions with your horse. I think there is something for everyone, beginner to advanced. As a budget conscious rider training predominantly on my own, I have found these types of guides priceless (see my other reviews) and they have really helped me to formulate a schooling plan each week and our progress has been very rewarding. I noticed that other riders at the barn were using the poles I left out in the arena and so I started posting the excercises on the bulleting board each week - inspiring everyone and creating great feedback and support. I know this is a book I will get a lot of use out of! ...
