Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 5 10th Anniversary Edition

5 stars (Roxio Easy Media Creator 7.5 review) - This is a very simple program to use & has many nice features. I'm mainly using it to make picture videos & it does a good job at it. 4 stars (One of the better consumer Video Editing/DVD Authoring solutions) - I am suprised to see so many people trash this suite so quickly. I never use it for burning CDs/DVDs/Audio player (Nero, Winamp anyone?), but a combination of Roxio Capture, Videowave Professional and DVD Builder is really good for camcorder DV->DVD video editing and conversion. Features include support for still images, videos of differing resolutions/specs, video effects, overlays, text overlays, etc. you name it. Pinnacle Studio 9 is still a notch better in terms of features (the only feature that this suite doesn't seem to have - manipulation of audio volume of video tracks in the timeline), but its wickedly unstable and gets my Oscar for the most crash friendly program. Call it my uncanny luck, but Studio used to corrupt my projects just after I spend hours editing the video and done with it making me start all over again. I was looking for a stable alternative and this suite has saved my day. 1 stars (Extremely Unstable Program) - After spending 6 weeks capturing and editing a video, which the program did well, the burning process is extremely unstable. It will burn the video to a DVD-RW (rewrightable) disk but not to a non rewritable disk. I have tried 4 different manufacturers DVD disk and after 2 1/2 hours it takes to burn, I get error messages on every one and the disks will not play. I have wasted time and disks (they are unusable after the burning) to get no results. I have spent hours with Roxio's direct email support and with phone support and get "this is most unusual" but no solutions. I have deleted and reinstalled the program 3 times, as suggested by tech support, and still get the same results. I have sent for a back up disk as support also suggested that the original disk may be faulty....

Nero 6 Ultra Edition All-in-One Digital Media Solution

1 stars (Nero 6 is junk) - I'm not an idiot, but I can't make nero 6 ultimate edition do anything. The photo viewer tells me it has errors and won't run...can't make it copy my photo files. Arrrrghhhh. 5 stars (Great) - I was at the right place at the right time.What I mean is I installed a new CD/DVD rom on my computer.Then started searching for burning software.That's when I came across the Nero6 ultra edition 6.6.It was on sale for 39$ plus tax.What a surprise when I installed it.It's loaded with everything and then some.I burned some cd's right away at lighting speed.There's alot of features I still have to learn.I'm an amateur at this but it seems easy enough to understand.I got lucky what can I say.Highly recommended. 4 stars (Good product, slow customer service) - I had some problems with Nero when I first got it that ended up being a problem with the driver for my DVD writer. Pinnacle Studio 9 Plus - Video Editing Software

5 stars (Excellent - as long as you have a reasonably recent PC) - I've been using Pinnacle for a couple years. This software is outstanding. Extremely powerful, yet reasonably intuitive to use. After learning a few basics, you're off and running to create powerful effects -- from corporate videos to very cool home videos. Good points: - Imports video nicely from dv camera - Breaks video up into scenes automatically for you - Easy drag, drop, cut, etc. to get just what you want into the timeline - Easy to modify the volume on the soundtrack and to add a music track and/or voiceover - Very powerful transitions -- the cool things you insert between segments of the video to make people say "wow, cool, how'd you do that"... you just drop them between scenes in your timeline and it does the rest - Preview without rendering time - If you want to dig deeper, you can -- title tools, transition effects can be highly customized, panning photos, etc. Drawbacks: - It's not a super high end product at this price -- there's only a couple audio tracks for instance. - I've had trouble with it on older hardware (more than a couple years). When you have hardware conflicts, it is terrible. It seems to randomly freeze and hang your machine, you lose your work, etc. It's awful. That probably accounts for most of the negative reviews. However, if your hardware will run it you will love this and be a great video editor in no time. 4 stars (Nice product. Off and running in a matter of minutes) - I purchsed Studio Version 9.3.9. Had no problems installing or running on my Dell Desktop or Laptop. Found program easy to use, importing video worked great (wish preview window defaulted to slightly larger size), Moving and trimming clips was easy, splitting clips was easy after viewing help file. 5 stars (Great value, easy to use, works great) - I've been reading the reviews for this product, and I have to say that I'm extremely surprised at how bad some of them are. I have a lot of old audio tapes with live recordings, and I wanted a way to convert them to digital format, edit the tracks, and possibly clean up some of the sound. Most software that offers these features is pretty expensive. The next cheapest alternative I found was $80. Since I am completely new to this, I wasn't sure I wanted to spend that much money. I didn't want my ignorance to get the best of me. I tripped over this product in a store, and purchased it without hesitation. A $30 mistake is much easier to swallow than an $80 mistake. The one thing I didn't do was read the reviews first, which I usually do. I have to say, I'm glad I didn't because they may have swayed me, and I can't complain. This software does exactly what I want it to do. It allows me to use a line-in to record from my tape deck to my PC. It allows me to easily cut the recording into tracks. This is made easier by the visualization feature. It's a lot easier to cut tracks when you can see the fluctuations in the volume. It allows me to do some simple sound cleaning. And an added bonus, which I hadn't considered, it allows me to record directly from streaming audio. So if a band or someone is playing a live show, I can capture it and enjoy it again. I wish I had this software years ago! For $30, you can't beat it! 4 stars (No Problem Mon) - I dunno what people's problem is, maybe they are using Windows 98 or something. 1 stars (why???) - why oh why did i buy this. that was really stupid. if you want a program that crashes your computer everytime you try copying something then this is perfect for you. if you just want to back up dvds that you have in your collection then i recommend dvd cloner 2 which you have to download, but it has the decoder. i wish i would have found that program before i found this stupid thing over at an electronic store. the box should have said BEWARE, THIS PRODUCT IS CRAP AND WE WILL RIP YOU OFF! 1 stars (A scam) - About the worst product I have ever purchased for my computer. I wish I'd read some reviews first. It basically locks up in Windows XP when you insert a commercial DVD. Not only that, but you cannot kill it through the Task Manager (if you run Task Manager before starting Easy DVD Copy) - and even worse, you cannot invoke Task Manager after starting Easy DVD Copy and it locks up. You cannot even shut down or reboot at this point. You have to pull out the power cord from your computer to get Roxio to stop running. So, this is about the most inexorably invasive non-functioning program I've ever run on XP. The only DVD I could copy was the DVD the program was distributed on. 1 stars (A Disgrace) - Symantec has disgraced itself by selling what they must know is a terribly flawed product. Don't waste your money. After uninstalling, I installed Roboform, which is an excellent product. 1 stars (Make sure to try this before buying it!!!) - FREE TRIAL: First of all, let me say there is a free 15-Day trial of this program on Symantec's website...try it before you buy it. On to the review: This isn't worth it. You have very little control over your passwords once you enter them into the program. After entry, you will never see your actual password again...good luck remembering them to use on a different computer. Ignoring the bad features and annoyances...this program didn't work on 3 out of the 7 websites I tried it on! That's nearly half! Stay Away! 5 stars (Norton Password Manager) - Just what I needed to manage umpteen paswords for financial and other websites. 5 stars (A superior media player, that outpreforms the rest...) - I've used WinDVD 4,6 and now 7 platinum versions. I'm impressed. It will play files that neither Real nor Windows Media Player will play. Additionaly, say you're downloading a movie and you pause it (and you have a fragmented media file which most players will not play because it is not complete)... WinDVD will play it while Real and Windows will not. Also, I bought the new Los Loney Boys CD, which came with some fierce copy protection... It wouldn't play on my computer at all... I tried Real Player, Windows Media, Roxio, Creative.... and alas, WinDVD played it. The benefits: Well, it plays every media file type, you can pan, zoom... and some better features are the Quick Capture button, where you can pause your movie, and take a quick picture of the screen. Have you ever watched a movie and said, "Man, that would make a good background for my pc."?, now you can. Also, you can take quick clips, a short clip of the movie, any part you want, and save it to your PC. It plays CDs that Most other mainstream media players could not or would not. As a PC junkie, I'm impressed with its ability to play many things that most other media players wont. You won't find the difficulties you find in other players. The cons: High price! About 80 dollars. The earlier versions, 4,5,6 have pretty much the same features, but the newer versions seem to use less memory and have a few more options. Seriously consider this as your next all around media viewer. ...

5 stars (Great. Simple and easy to use.) - I wanted a simple full featured recording program that would rival Garageband and this is it. No complaints. Well worth the excellent price. 5 stars (I think this thing is AMAZING (But I'm a novice at this)!!!) - I can't believe there are NO reviews for this thing (as I write this)! I wanted this in mainly order to re-mix my favorite songs. I got pretty excited reading the box, and more excited when it arrived. I installed it and started running it and all of the sudden I found myself thinking "uh-oh, this is wayyyy over my head." But, like many programs, all you have to do is just start experimenting and playing around with it, and in no time, you will get the idea. The versatility this allows you to have with so many aspects of any track you import is incredible (and NO, I am not on Sony's payroll). The software comes with an honest-to-goodness, spiral-bound, hard-copy MANUAL! How rare these days! So you can be like me and take it to work to read on your breaks and then race home to try out the new techniques you read up on. The interface also has a "How Do I...?" button that covers a lot of varied functions, and it has a great, integrated, step-by-step approach that actually *teaches* you AS you do it. A great "hands-on" approach. I just can't begin to say how impressed I am at it's comprehensiveness and design. I sat with it for about 2 hours to do my first (serious) 4-minute-song re-mix, but when I was finished, I had a great track - all burned to inkjet-printed disc, and ready to give to my wife (it was one of her favorite songs). I like any software that actually allows me to *accomplish* something I really want to do, and this software did exactly that! Unless you're a super-techie who would stick his nose up at anything that runs with less than a $500 price tag, I think you'll be happy with this. I guess I should mention for those that want to *create* music from loops and so forth, it's still just as versatil...

1 stars (Don't Waste your Time or $$$) - I have used the old Version Videowave 5. I made several productions with it and burned them on to a DVD. There were some problems, but not many, and the DVD's worked. I upgraded to Videowave 7 thinking it would work just as well. Well, Videowave 7 has many nice features, and in some ways is easer to use than Videowave 5. However, the program is loaded with bugs or bad code. It just does not work correctly. Support for this program is worthless. So, save your time and $$ and buy something else. 1 stars (This program is terrible!!!) - I thought this program was great for about an hour. I left it alone overnight to burn because it was taking FOREVER to burn a DVD, and my otherwise perfect computer died inexplicably in the middle of the night. After 200 dollars to replace my motherboard and a huge fried hard drive, I have reinstalled not thinking it had anything to do with this program. Now my computer is "fixed" and it has crashed after this program froze for the 50th time. DO NOT USE THIS PROGRAM!!!! I don't know if this is what fried my hard drive or not, but I can sympathize with the others who say it has made their computer unresponsive, I am trying to uninstall as we speak, however, my computer will not even boot up at this point! In addition, it is very easy to use, but if you have any skills in video editing, don't waste your time, the audio options are very primitive, you cannot even edit audio in the menu. 4 stars (There is a patch!) - After reading all the negative reviews here at Amazon, I decided to try PowerDVD 5 myself and this is what I have to say: after installing the software I tried to play a copyrighted DVD and PowerDVD would give me an error message "can't play copyrighted DVD's". I contacted CyberLink customer service by email and they advised me to download a patch. After installing the patch everything worked fine. I'm pretty satisfied with PowerDVD 5 , it runs fine, even on my old IBM notebook with Pentium III processor. Can't be beaten at that price! 1 stars (Tech Support--ha!) - This stuff is not worth it. I can't use it to watch copyrighted DVDs, and tech support is less than useless. I've had similar experiences to topher66 and Recif. If you do a google search on the error number (F4941436) you'll find lots of people have the same problem. Wouldn't it be nice if they just fixed the problem? 1 stars (Kludgy Software. Poor Tech support) - My experience was similar to that of topher666. On a brand new laptop, on which the OEM DVD player ran fine, this software ran extremely slowly with no sound. Tech support was of no help. After filling out a long form on the gocyberlink website, they do not even respond directly to you. You have to login into your account to check if a response has been posted. This is anyway just a form response, to reinstall the program after first editing your registry (something most people are rightfully reluctant to do) to complete the uninstall. The form has to be filled out all over again for each follow-up. I gave up after three weeks of fruitless exchanges, after having sent at their request several diagnostic files, with not a single constructive suggestion. ...

5 stars (Great for wedding DVD's) - I purchased the PictureShow 2.0 version and saw some negative comments so I felt compelled to speak up for such a good product. This software is great. I used it to create my own wedding DVD and also a yoga DVD for a friend. Both turned out much better than some professionally created ones I've seen. I think a lot of professional video (artist types) people are using old tools and aren't very computer literate. I have a windows XP PC. Pro's * You can create a professional looking DVD menu with your own image and music in the background. * It also has many template menus to pick from. Very easy to change font's and colors. * This product never crashed or got stuck. Unlike Roxio software. I'll never buy Roxio again. * I had about 600 pictures, 6 categories' (front menu) and used about 20 songs. It handled it no problem. * It has a default transition of fade to black. It looks the most professional. It also had many other transitions to pick from, but honestly who uses checker, swips, up/down fades on TV or movies. It looks amateurish. * You can start or end a song on any picture. It has a total time for each picture, including transition time, so you can start the next song when the other one finishes. May require a calculator for the math challenged. * I never burned directly to DVD because I wanted to make many copies so I created the DVD image on my hard-disk. I then used my crappy Roxio software to burn the DVD. This process works very quickly, as it only takes about 5 minutes to burn the DVD from an already created DVD image. The poor guy in some other review thought he needed a new DVD drive to burn his disk. He didn't, he could have just created a DVD image on his hard-disk and then used ANY software to burn the DVD disk. * The final DVD looks and plays flawlessly. 5 stars (Not perfect, but it is still the best!) - Likes... Once you learn the program you can do some pretty extraordinary things with it. Finale offers a lot of flexibility. The print output put looks fantastic. It plays back your piece flawlessly!!! Recent versions come with tutorial videos so it makes it very easy for a beginner to get started right away. Also, the help forum at Makemusic is very good. Anyone can get their Finale question answered in very little time! Finale now comes with a GM soundfont. Now you can hear your files played back with decent sounds without having to buy any external equipment. 2005 is now compatible with Garritan Personal Orchestra so you can have your files played back with some of the best available! I would bet VST and DXi will be in the next release. (Don't quote me on this!) There are a couple free pdf writers on the net. Download them and then you will be able to send your arrangement via email! This is a very cool feature! Dislikes... Finale still makes some common tasks very difficult. Rits and accels are a nightmare to figure out. You have to have a third party plugin to get decent results. If you try and do them with Finale's method you better be a rocket scientist!!! Something this common should be really simple! There are other cryptic, hard to learn features lurking amidst some of the menus but Make Music is getting rid of them with each new release. I use Finale almost every day of my life! It is amazing. It isn't as hard to learn as it used to be thanks to the tutorials it comes with. Anyone that loves writing music should get Finale!
