3 stars (One of the best pregnancy books out there) - I am having my second child, so I purchased the 5th edition book. I loved the 4th as it was very informative and had a detailed drawing of what the baby looked like each week. The 5th edition is a bit different. I still think it's very informative and the best book to have to guide you through these 9 months, but I wish the doctor would have put all the "scary" medical information in a "special considerations" chapter at the end of the book. It's a bit frustrating to have to read something negative every week. I also wish the doctor could explain a bit more about the development of the baby instead of just a few generalized sentences. Overall, it's alot more detailed than others out there. 4 stars (Good for first-time pregnancies) - I bought this book, along with "What to Expect when you're Expecting". I liked this book BETTER because of the week-by-week changes in baby/me vs. the monthly chapters in WTEWYE. As far as some folks saying it's negative, all baby books I've looked at will tell you what can go wrong. I would rather know what CAN possibly go wrong and the symptons so I can know if it's an issue I should be contacting my doctor. 1 stars (Your Money: Down the Drain) - Over the past 22 weeks I've been reading a number of books, this being one of them. Your Pregnancy Week by Week is organized in 6-7 page chapters, one for each week of the pregnancy. Each week gives a couple paragraphs on changes going on with the baby, changes going on with the pregnant mom-to-be, and then spends 2-3 pages covering other topics of potential interest to the pregnant woman. Therein lies the problem. Potential interest does not mean necessary relevance, and the fact that each week you get a taste of potentially interesting information means that if in week 11 you have a question about the difference between doulas and midwives, you have to wait until week 19 to read about it. One chapter spends it's entire 'Things You... 5 stars (Buy this one first) - Even though I have both the "in Brief" and the unabridged editions, it is only the "in Brief" edition that I take with me to my meetings. I recommend that you buy and read the "in Brief" edition first. 5 stars (User-friendly meeting guide) - This has to be the most user-friendly book I've seen, starting with the inside of the front cover. It says, "If you only have 30 minutes" then read certain chapters. Somehow these experts figured out what the rest of us would need to know and how we would be looking for it. Maybe they had a panel of non-experts to critique. There are chapters detailing what the words are that you use to make something happen and how to use those words. Best of all, everywhere you look there are copious examples. In the back are succinct tables of those same words and there is also a chapter on how to find the completely complete information on the topic in the big "Robert's" book Most of the book is concerned with what you need to know as a member of the group. There are separate chapters for an officer of the group, which contain the things that most of us don't need to know. This is not a book you'd save for a winter evening curled up in front of the fireplace. It's to tell you all sorts of things you'd really rather not have to know, but that you really need to know. I've already decided that mine is mine alone. Nobody is going to borrow it because it would never come back to me. ... 5 stars (Made My Fiancee Laugh!) - I bought this book for my fiancee to help her through her pregnancy. I bought Jenny's book to give her some good natured comic relief from this sometimes difficult period, and it sure worked wonders. She said it was a quick read, but it had her laughing constantly. And she would lend it to her friends when they would need it. Though I bought a few more serious books for more definitive information, this was a great change of pace. I guess I should read it too. Thanks Jenny for putting a few smiles back on my Mommy to Be's face. 5 stars (Best Pregnancy Book For a Laugh) - This was by far my favorite of all the pregnancy books I've read. I was in tears from laughing so hard at numerous points throughout the book. 5 stars (A must read for any "Real" Pregnancy) - I was having a tough time of it during my 4th month of pregnancy. I was still throwing up, my ob wanted me to put on some weight which my husband took as a sign to force feed me, and I had literally 20 emails from extended family giving advice on keeping food down. My favorite "You need to eat more meat, gravy, and potatoes"...An Aunt who is an OB Nurse prescribed this book! The day it arrived, I read it cover to cover! Jenny McCarthy's frankness on pregancy from morning sickeness, sore boobs hemrroids, to fear of "pooing" on the delivery table is a welcome relief for all of us preggos who are sick of hearing about the pregancy glow and know that "What to Expect when you are Expecting" doesn't really cut it! Thank you Jenny - you saved my life. I am soo glad that I am not alone! ... 5 stars (Friday Night Lights) - Friday Night Lights is a true story about a football team in Odessa, Texas. Odessa is all about football, attracting at least 20,000 people a game every Friday to watch the Permian Panthers try to win another game against their opponents. It became a way of life. It was every boys dream to wear the black and white jerseys of the Permian team. Only a select few had the chance to play for them. The 1988 football team of the Panthers was on a quest to win the state championship and would do anything it took to make it there. Boobie Miles is one of those competitive players who wanted only to win. Although he did not get the chance because of him shattering his foot. Finally after months of training, they were at the final game to see who went to the state championship. Their opponent was Carter High of Dallas. They were a lot bigger than Permian but they both wanted the same thing; to win. Although Permian High played good game, they lost to the Carter High Cowboys. After the defeat, all of their names on the magnets that were used as locker tags just got thrown into a box to be buried and forgotten like all the prior losing teams that hadn't won in the High School of Permian. It was over. The Cowboys ended up winning the state title a week later. My favorite part in this novel is the games and practices that were described in the book. It made me think of what I did every day from 3:30 to 5:00. This book is different from some of the other books that I have read. Normally a book has a happy ending where everyone gets what they want or that everybody is happy. Not in this book. In this book you think that the football team is going to win but instead they lose and do not have their names in the Friday night lights. 5 stars (The Bright Lights) - Friday Night Lights is a superb chronicle of the 1988 football season for the Odessa-Permian High School Panthers in Odessa, Texas.
