Wounded Heart- A Companion Workbook for Personal or Group Use

5 stars (Great resource for helping!) - This book and the accompanying workbook are great resources for the support groups I have led for the past 5 years now. There are many women whose lives have been changed as a result, including my own. 5 stars (Brought great healing) - Last year, I worked my way through the book and study guide. When I first began reading the book, I wanted to throw it across the room, and was angry that the author would even insinuate that I was sinning. Well, he was right. I was so filled with self-contempt and rage, and so chained up in the prison of abuse, that I would almost rather rail at him and run, than admit that I was existing in a state that was eating me up, inside and out. I had been holding myself separate from God, not allowing Him to bring healing for the past horrors in my life, dead from the numbness I had created to protect myself from pain. Through this study, and the pain, tears and difficult struggles that accompanied it, great healing has been taking place in my life. I am thankful for Dr. Allender's obedience in writing this study, and I am grateful to our Lord for using it to begin my journey of restoration and healing. I can highly recommend this book to someone who is tired of living a life behind the prison walls of childhood sexual abuse, someone who is willing to go through the pain of 'looking at' the abuse one last time and grieving for the child that was destroyed inside himself/herself. If you are willing to finally lay all of the pain and hurt and shame and rage down on God's altar, this book may be what you are looking for. 5 stars (Diagnosing and Treating the Wounded Heart) - "The Wounded Heart" is a classic text on the understanding and treatment of the sexual abuse victim. Dan Allender writes from a foundation of biblical insight, psychological research, and counseling experience. Allender is quick to defend abuse victims and to help them to understand that they were not guilty for their abuse....

The Message- The Bible in Contemporary Language

5 stars (Clear and inspiring) - Peterson's rendering of the Bible is fresh and insightful. The verses' numbers being in the margin, enable me to look up specific verses and yet read passages as more complete thoughts. 5 stars (think) - Too many Christians forget what is was like to be new in the faith. Remember when the bible was total confusion until your priest or pastor shed some light on the subject being discussed? This book kept me focusing on spiritual issues instead of a mystery novel when I was a baby Christian (at age 40) and confused. What would you rather have you kid reading, "The Message" or more 'instant messaging'? I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in Christianity. It is not meant to replace the bible. It is meant to draw you back to the bible with more clarity. 1 stars (Read's like a childrens book) - Ok, if you have a very small vocabulary and don't like to get the exact meaning of things but like to get an overall idea of what is going on, then this book is for you. It's so paraphrased that is honostly upsets me. It seems like it's not even really the bible. Passages and stories are designed to read like modern day times, but the only problem is that this stuff isn't modern day at all, and isn't supposed to be. I don't suggest it unless you've never read the bible before and are in elementary school. ...

5 stars (Experienced Love) - Abba's Child is a revelation that all of us, as believers - Christians - need in order to ove the kind of life that will truly glorify The Lord Jesus. Ian 5 stars (One of those few "turning point" books) - Do you struggle with your insecurities? Is rejection something that haunts you? When was the last time you FELT the Father's love? If you answered yes, or never, this book is for you. Abba's Child grips you with the tender compassion that our heavenly Father has for each of us, because of that theme, I think that this book is dangerous and offensive to those whose spiritual security comes from empty religiosity. Throughout the book, Manning demonstrates that he has walked the difficult path to intimacy with God. He has found a way to intimacy that a generation of broken families can follow to reach new depths in their relationship with God and with others. For me personally, this book was the catalyst in my journey to the Father heart of God; of learning that I am acceptable and have worth. Through Manning's experiences, words, and the words of the wise whom he quoted, I have become an entirely different person. I was one of those Christians who liked to wear different masks, then I read this book. I have read the reviews of the naysayers, and can only conclude that they missed out. Oh, and I have read three other of Manning's books since this book, and they're all incredible. -Ragamuffin Gospel -Ruthless Trust -A Glimpse of Jesus 1 stars (utter crap) - God is about relationships and fruits of the spirit, He is not about abandoning everyone and everything to find Him. Connecting- The Mentoring Relationships You Need To Succeed In Life

3 stars (Practical Yet Partial) - This book is based on a simple finding: "Research on mid-career, contemporary leaders led to [the] conclusion - few leaders finish well". Further, in the case where leaders did finish well, "their relationship to another person significantly enhanced their development". Thus the stage is set for the subject of mentoring, which the authors describe as (the concise definition): a relational experience through which one person empowers another by sharing God-given resources. Stanley and Clinton are well respected authorities in the field of leadership development, and this book represents a popular and "lightweight" version of far larger tomes, so providing easy access to their ideas. The authors focus mainly on the types of mentor who may enrich our lives, and how. The book explores nine common mentor types, and "ten commandments" required for successful mentoring. Two further types of mentoring receive special attention, namely The Constellation Model (a relational network of upward, downward, and lateral mentoring), and Peer Co-Mentoring (mutual mentoring with a close friend). The emphasis on the "relational experience" of mentoring is arguably both the greatest strength and the greatest weakness of the book. On the one hand, it offers one - in the words of the publishers - "access to the wisdom, experience, vision, and direction of those who have gone before". On the other hand, there is a great deal of emphasis on the values, skills, etc. which are transferred to the one being mentored, yet limited appreciation of how mentoring might point to God. The authors hardly touch on the type of mentoring which focuses on the "encounter with the Holy", and the sovereign grace required for a Christian leader to succeed and survive. The Heart of Mentoring- Ten Proven Principles for Developing People to Their Fullest Potential

5 stars (Life changing principles that lead to a true legacy) - This book really captures the essense of a successful mentoring relationship. Anyone who leads, coaches, manages or influences others should read this book - a few times. The principles have literally changed my life and have given me the understanding and confidence to now help others. After all, the legacy any of us can hope to leave can only be measured in the lives of other people. 5 stars (Fantastic insight into relationships) - This book is so applicable because it truly does go to the heart of mentoring which is investing in others at the same time you are being given back in return. Calm My Anxious Heart - A Woman-s Guide to Contentment

5 stars (Finding Contentment is not easy, but can be accomplished!) - Life throws many curves. When my husband lost his job and I was an at home mom at the time, I was filled with anxiety. This book was my lifeline. I gained strength and courage to deal with daily struggles. I learned to thank God for my situation rather than asking him to change it. Believe me, there were days when I wanted relief and I drew strength from God to keep going. Eventually my husband found another job and we moved closer to family. I love this book and still refer to it often. This book brought me closer to finding contentment during a time in my life when I didn't think that was possible. I looked to God to fill my heart rather than looking to people or situations. 5 stars (Best Book EVER!!!) - Besides my Bible, this is the ONLY book that will reside on my night-stand for the rest of my life. This is the only book I keep copies of to give to people. Truly life-changing. 5 stars (Peace in the Midst of my Storms) - I've been a believer for 14 years, and this book has had a profound impact on my spritual growth this year. Scripturally grounded insights helped me recognize several areas of discontent in my life. I completed the book over the past year with a prayer partner, (one chapter every 2 weeks) and we both want to go thru it again. The Message Remix Bible in Contemporary Language

3 stars (Good and not so good) - I bought this bible for my teenage daughter who had requested it. We had heard great comments about it and were somewhat disappointed after receiving our copy. The way my daughter explained it, a lot has been lost in the translation. Some sentences are great because it really puts some things in perspective, but some sentences are awful because it's lost the lyric quality and familiarity of nearly every other bible translation/revision. Neither of us will be using it as our primary bible. 5 stars (Great Translation Of the Bible) - Great book in a new form that is understood by anyone instaed of all the complex words. It is the most clearest Bible ever. Pick one up and start reading. 5 stars (Spectacular Translation) - Very useful, down-to-earth explanations and translation of the Bible. A vivid one page summary precedes each book and casts extra light on the themes of the books of the Bible. Passages I've often been perplexed over as to how to apply them to my own life are revealed through the simple-to-understand language used to translate them. I've already given two as gifts and will give more in the future...highly recommended!! ...
