Healing Back Pain - The Mind-Body Connection

5 stars (Sometimes, it is in the mind) - Having tried sports medicine, MRI, and anti-inflamation drugs, I finally began to read Dr. Sarno's book and within days started to feel relief from constant back pain and sciatica. What drew me in was Sarno's understanding of not only what I was going through but also all of the advice I had to that point been given by my doctors. His theory of how the brain mistakenly deprives oxygen seems very valid to me since 6 weeks later I was virtually pain-free. Sometimes back pain is caused by physical defects but sometimes it's caused by the mind. 3 stars (HEALING Bak Pain????!!!!) - This book might be worth considering for anyone who has some kind of a back problem (every third of us?). However, I have an issue with the title of the book as I find it over-promising and misleading. When buying the book one would expect to find solutions for his or her back pain ("Healing Back Pain" is the title!!!) However the book concentrates on only one kind of a back pain, namely one resulting from our suppressing of our feelings and emotions. I am not debating whether Dr. Sarno is right or wrong in his theory, but I am really disappointed in not finding any solution (healing) to a real back problem... As alternative reading I rather suggest "Can We Live 150 Year?" where the author devotes a whole chapter to spine problems and resulting from them diseases. But before you buy this book, better check Amazon's "Search Inside the Book" feature to make sure that you are buying what you really want. 5 stars (Still Going) - It's been six years now and I rarely even think about my back anymore. Before reading the book, my backpain was the first thing I thought about in the morning and the last thing I thought about at night. I thought about it all day and it was even starting to wake me up. I had scheduled back surgery but read the book before it was too late. Told the neurosurgeon to have a nice day. I was fine. The pain is muscle cra...

6-Day Body Makeover - Drop One Whole Dress or Pant Size in Just 6 Days--and Keep It Off

4 stars (6-Day Body Makeover) - This diet works! Preparing the food takes a bit of time but is well worth it 5 stars (IT WORKS!!!!!) - I followed the plan with some slight modifications (flavored water) and lost 7 pounds in 6 days! More importantly though was that I learned how to eat healthy and control my portion sizes! I have been sticking to the plan for 2 weeks now and feel the best I have felt in a long time. I even sleep better since I started this plan. The plan works!!!! I tried to eat some junky greasy food last night (yes I cheated) and it made me sick. I don't even want that type of food anymore! Try the plan you will be very glad you did! 5 stars (It works but it is hard) - This diet works but it is way difficult to stick to. It is especially difficult if you have kids. I bought this as a way to see if I wanted to by the 6-week body makeover. I decided not to and went back on Atkins to keep my weight loss going. If you are just starting a weight loss program, I recommend this as a good diet to jumpstart with, because it works fast, teaches you to incorporate more vegetables into your diet and to eat more times per day so that you aren't ever hungry. ...

The pH Miracle for Weight Loss - Balance Your Body Chemistry- Achieve Your Ideal Weight

2 stars (Disappointed) - My opinion is the food plan will work but this book is not laid out well. I found myself going back and forth trying to locate the info I needed. The book refers to info in previous written books which I do not own. This info should be included in this book! The first 4 chapters tend to cover the science aspect of the diet...For me a simple statement would do since I don't have any interest in the rest or even understand most of it to be simply honest. Moving ahead...I did begin the cleanse process, only using 1 of the supplements suggested...(taking herbal la'xs 3 'xs daily is not healthy in my opinion so I chose not to use that portion of the cleanse) I did lose 6.5# my first week. Even though I have had success with the cleanse part of the diet, I am disappointed in the book as a whole. 4 stars (GOOD INFORMATION FOR DETOXING AND FOR CHOOSING WATER) - I LIKED THIS BOOK, I HAVE BEEN STUDYING HEALTH AND NUTRITION FOR OVER 20 YEARS. THIS BOOK REALLY HELPS YOU TO CHOOSE A GOOD PH BALANCED WATER. AS A RESULT OF THE INFORMATION I FOUND A WATER THAT IS REALLY BETTER THAN THE REST. TRINITY WATER IS REALLY BETTER THAN ALOT OF THE WATERS I HAVE USED. EVERY BOOK I READ THAT GIVES ME SOME KIND OF BENEFICIAL INFORMATION IS USEFUL. THIS WAS ONE OF THOSE BOOKS. I RECOMEND IT. 5 stars (PH Miracle for Weight Loss) - Finally! A detailed plan of diet that will serve excellent health for the lifetime! Not just a weight loss book, but a way to feel great, and detoxify the entire body. The weight is dropping, and energy is increasing after just 3 weeks! Thank you, Robert and Shelley Young. ...

The Celestine Prophecy

1 stars (Atrocious) - This is one of the worst books I've ever read - a real struggle to finish due to its kindergarten plot, poor proof reading and hippy "message". No idea why its so popular - its like it was written by a 13 year old. 1 stars (Pure Comedy) - This is quite possibly the worst (AND FUNNIEST) book I have ever read. I actually read this book while in Peru (where most of the story takes place) and I can most assuredly say that the author has never been to Peru. His descriptions of the country are vague at best. For instance, he describes a field of Oak trees at one point. I travelled extensively through Peru and in my entire time saw not one Oak tree. Redfield's views on history and culture are entirely ethnocentric. In fact, almost every vague point he makes in regards to history revolves totally around western society. Redfield wants so hard to come off as deep and spiritual in this book and just comes off as an absolute flake. However, this book is very funny to read. It is so bad that my friend and I would actually take turns reading it to each other and end up on the ground laughing. If you are actually looking for a book with substance, I suggest a book called The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran. A true masterpiece- something that The Celestine Prophecy is most definately not. 5 stars (Insights to live by) - My daughter sent me this book while I was in Alaska. I found the story exciting, and was unable to put it down untill I had finished. I bought several copies to send to my children in the lower 48. The insights confirmed my beliefs and I have re-read it several times. I have also read the Secret of Sahmbhala and The Tenth Insight ...

The Mindbody Prescription- Healing the Body- Healing the Pain

5 stars (Revolutionary!) - Everyone who has a body should read this book! Read it and spread the word. A+++. 5 stars (Sarno has turned my life around) - After 20 years of severe sciatica, following Sarno's program 100% and reading the TMS Help message forum on the internet daily has resulted in roughly an 85% reduction in leg and buttocks pain over the last year. That's after I wasted so many years on chiropractic, accupuncture, back exercises, avoiding certain physical movements, PT, deep muscle massage, cortisone injections, and 4 horrible and useless back surgeries. 5 stars (Knowledge is Power) - I'm a physical therapist with 20 years experience in treating patients with low back pain, neck pain, and other various pain problems and if everybody would accept this information I would be looking for a job. After five years of chronic low back pain, I was completely painfree in two week after accepting my back pain was due to repressed emotions and not some type of structural problem. And yes by the way I do try to tell my patients now about the process but most will not accept it. I know at first the whole process sounds like a bunch of bull, but let me tell you there is a huge body of scientific research linking stress to back pain. Just think for a minute about all the great strides of modern medicine and then think how bad that same modern medicine is at curing back pain. That's because doctors and therapists are focused on the wrong problem. Doctors and therapists blame various structural problems when the real culprit is stress, pressure, and repressed emotions. Your back does not hurt because you are weak, inflexible, or malaligned it hurts because life is full of stress and pressure. I know because I lived it too. Dr. Sarno does a great job of explaining all this and makes a strong argument against traditional treatments. He explains how acceptance is critical not by blind faith but by knowledge and logic. He is truly one of the great thi...

Manhandled- Gripping Tales of Gay Erotic Fiction

5 stars (One Word: HOT!!!!) - This is one of the most raw, edgy, and hardcore gay fictions i have ever read. It truly gave me chills while reading it, each one showing the hot and sexy variety of gay sex, down and dirty, hot and edgy, raw and raunchy, just so hardcore and wonderful! And it was also well written as well. Highly recommended. 5 stars (Wow. Hot and Hardcore) - Most erotica collections feature very hot, explicit shots of studs on the cover. Although Manhandled has a much more tame visual, don't let it fool you. There are some wild stories in this collection. There's a total pigfest in which one man becomes the "rag" (if you know what I mean) in an orgy after his name is picked from a bowl. There's a pretty risky story about a bunch of preachers who teach some young men lessons about man-on-man desire by testing them out to see if being involved in the actual act turns them on! And if they do get turned on...they get a whooping. And all this takes place in a barn, no less. And there's one story where this sweet innocent guy gets roughed up by his carpenter, who then feeds him a box of popsicles...and not orally!!! This is definitely a hot collection with a good assortment of original setups, and it has more stories and is much longer than many gay erotica collections that cost just as much. 5 stars (Lots of fun, and some surprises!) - This is a fine collection of tales which fulfill and then exceed expectations. In addition to being loaded (mild pun) with eroticism, they are inventive, sometimes surprisingly so, often full of fun and mischief and sometimes genuinely affecting on an emotional level. If you enjoy the genre, you'll get a lot of pleasure from this book. ...

Rich Dad-s Cashflow Quadrant- Rich Dad-s Guide to Financial Freedom

5 stars (Excellent work) - Excellent work about money, business and life. It has to be main course of all educational systems. 3 stars (Mixed impressions) - Being really impressed by the first book (aka Rich Dad Poor Dad), I was looking for the same kind of insightful yet accessible teaching. For clarity the book is packed with interesting concepts and really made me think about the financial matter from a different angle. That's the three stars. Yet, few points were disturbing to plain anoying: - The Author often mention network marketing as very good business systems without really explaining why. For some reasons it felt off topic everytime it was mentionned. When I read the Author was working for one of these companies, I felt tricked. - All mentions of the cashflow board game really felt like plain advertising. Even if the rationale is obvious, I was in for teaching, not ads. - The cashflow logo thingy shows up every other page with its attached (tm). It's not so much about the trade mark on four letters but the redundancy and size of each diagram feel like somebody is sticking a post-it on your forehead 20 times in the book. It is sometimes useful, but mostly redundant. - The references to the real-estate market were obviously made before the recent real-estate frenzy. Although I am not a reference on the matter. - Although the beginning of the book is really captivating, the last part about self motivation was not convincing. Enjoy 5 stars (Good product but wrong listing.) - I purchased a CD but after clicking the purchase botton it said cassett on the screen as it does now in your description. This made me anic and I tried to cancel. Could not cancel and bought more that I planned. Itms need to be listed corectlly? a CASSETT IS A CASSETT AND A cd IS A cd i PAID FOR THAT MISTAKE. ...

The Rules

3 stars (Fluff with a hidden message?) - I really scoffed at this book, and didn't consider reading it until a friend of mine handed it to me and asked me to consider it with an open mind. Here's what I found: There are a series of rules that a woman MUST follow (the authors INSIST a woman must adhere to ALL of them, not "a la carte") in order to get and maintain a man's interest. They promise that if a woman sticks to the rules, a man holding out an engagement ring on bended knee will follow. Ridiculous. These rules include never talking to a man first, don't pay on dates 1-3, "training" a man to call you no later than Wednesday if he hopes to see you on Saturday, and others. I disagree especially with the final chapter on how to be a good "rules wife" that basically implies that a wife must keep quiet and appear happy even when she's not, simply because her husband is "tired" or stressed from a long day at work. It's a good thing they suggest getting therapy, because living in a charade like that would drive anybody crazy. The reedeming quality of this book is that it sends a message to women that desperate, needy, clingy, obsessive, and overly agressive behavior is unbecoming. I believe this to be true with women AND men. There are many women who are already imagining their wedding gown before their date picks them up for the first time! The book sets clear boundaries for women to not chase men who are not interested in them or who will not make a reliable partner in the future. Also, the book reminds women that men are not the equivalent of our female friends, especially in the beginning-- gabbing on and on while on the phone may not be the wisest move, although setting a timer for 10 minutes as the authors suggest is a bit excessive. It was a god tip when the authors suggested NOT talking about marriage and kids with men right off the bat, which many women shockingly do, however, if women adheres to " The Rules " they must wait until the man brings ...

Rich Dad- Poor Dad- What the Rich Teach Their Kids about Money--That the Poor and Middle Class Do No

5 stars (Complete guide to making tons of money) - Robert Kiyosaki is probably one of the few published business people who actually know what they are talking about. I say this because most business people would have you believe that getting rich isn't easy, or real estate is a bad investment because tenants could damage your property...which is absurd Rich Dad, Poor Dad shows the simplicity to acquiring great wealth. To invest in things with predictable earnings (real estate) To get out of liabilities, and to strive to growing your wealth. Some of the richest people in the world today use this method, and gained lots of money. Warren Buffet, for instance, use these factors when it comes to managing his finances, and he is the Second Richest Man in the world. This book is simple, yes, but it's simplicity boils down hard financial concept into concepts that you and I can understand, and TO ALL YOU NEGATIVE REVIEWERS OUT THERE: If you are not happy about a book that shows you how getting rich is easy, get out of the way and let others enjoy the book! 5 stars (An Excellent Book {Read With Caution}) - Yes this is a great book. But the content boils down to a motivational speech about oversimplified common sense {common sense repeated a lot and in a lot of different ways}. That being said, there's a great reason to repeat common sense rules like Kiyosaki does in Rich Dad, Poor Dad. Sometimes common sense just isn't as common as we think it is. Maybe the reason the book sells so well is people need to here them, because as simple as they are, people just aren't getting them. Yes, Kiyosaki is short on specifics. But then, if you want to know how to pick stocks, what rules to use when buying real estate, or how to hire contractors you should expect to buy more than one book. Maybe that's why there's a list of further readings in many of Kiyosaki's books. Many of those books weren't written by Kiyosaki {a real sign of a selfish guru <- sarcasm.} Most negative reviewer...

Professor- the Banker- and the Suicide King- The - Inside the Richest Poker Game of All Time

5 stars (What it's like to be Howard Lederer) - This book is a quick read and will do nothing to make you a better poker player. But it's a great story. If you want to know what it's like to play high stakes poker at the highest levels, this book is great. Gives you a much more accurate picture of folks like Lederer, Brunson, Ivey, Reese, etc than what you see on the World Poker Tour. Lots of great stories and anectdotes about the personalities and some really big games. 4 stars (Inside the Richest Poker Game of All Time) - In the days before the poker boom - today poker players are star personalities and hours and hours of games are televised on cable, a super rich amateur decided to take on the best money poker players in the world. Andy Beal played head-up matches with these pros and the results were surprising. With the pro's essentially being the "house" (the player with the greater advantage - like the dealer in Blackjack) - Andy worked and studied on how to lessen these advantages that the pros brought in to each and every game. Also some great insight into the lives away from the poker rooms of Vegas for the folks who make a living on the fall of the cards. If you are the sort of person who who pick this book up, then you will probably enjoy this brisk and entertaining read. 5 stars (Pure Enjoyment) - If you enjoy poker, and enjoy reading, this is an outstanding book. No strategy, just a great story about what many of us can only dream of, a person who is filthy rich, up against people who would gamble on anything they feel like they have an edge at. A lot of fun. ...
