Angels - Demons- Special Illustrated Edition

5 stars (angles and demons) - The story talks about Brilliant physicist Leonardo Vetra, who was attempting to use science to prove the existence of God, has been murdered; his eyes plucked out and the society's ancient symbol branded upon his chest. His final discovery, anti-matter, the most powerful and dangerous energy source known to man, has disappeared. Langdon and Vittoria, Vetra's daughter, embark on a frantic hunt through Rome, following a 400-year-old trail to the lair of the Illuminati, to prevent the incineration of civilization. Dan Brown is quite a talent man. This novel is very interesting and exciting. There is a mystery and suspense. It shows comparison between religion and science, as to the relationship between the two supposedly opposing positions. The Illuminati and antimatter are amazing. I strongly believe that you might fall in love with this novel and refuse to stop reading it. Finally, I am looking forward to reading next novel. 5 stars (the Angels have it) - Like millions of people I read THE DA VINCI CODE and loved it so thought I would try ANGELS AND DEMONS. It's a book about secret brotherhoods, religion and dark assassins. Once again the central character is Robert Langdon. It's a brilliant read. ALSO if you like religious thrillers, I highly recommend STEALING FROM ANGELS by Brian Dullaghan. I would say these are my best two books for 2005. 5 stars (Incredible Read!) - This, along with The da Vinci Code, is one of my new favorite books. It follows Robert Langdon on the trail of a killer and a madman threatening to use a deadly weapon to blow up Vatican City. Dan Brown is an amazing suspense/thriller/mystery author and I'm looking forward to The Solomon Key. While I'm not sure when that'll be coming out, I'm looking forward to the da Vinci Code movie (starring Tom Hanks) and I'm planning on reading more of Brown's books. This book is highly recommended. If you've read The da Vinci Code, you may find yourself enjoying this on...

Survey of Mathematics with Applications- A 7th Edition

4 stars (EXCELLENT REFERENCE FOR BEGINNING & ADVANCED UNDERGRADUATES) - I have been teaching out of Angel & Porter for the last three years. It has quite a few good examples, though I agree with the first reviewer's comment that it does need more challenging problems. Among the topics I have covered are: inductive reasoning, set concepts, symbolic logic, truth tables, algebra, applied geometry, probability, statistics, and mathematics of finance. Though the examples are laid out fairly well for those who are mathematically inclined, the teacher who happens to have quite a few students with weak mathematical skills is often finding himself or herself in situations of having to create ways to become an effective expositor of mathematical theorems and applications. In other words, by trying to explain what the authors are providing in their examples, the instructor is frequently shouldering the added burden of making this book come to life not only from a mathematical perspective but also from a communicative standpoint. On a positive note, however, there are several excellent applications, and the range of topics is quite broad. Oftentimes there is a gap between the level of advanced high school mathematics and that of a four-year university that is so serious that even a student who performed A's in high school will struggle in the type of college math course he or she is placed in. Fortunately, Angel and Porter have been able to fill in quite a few of the missing pieces. 1 stars (Still incompetent after all these editions) - A few years ago I wrote a review here on Amazon, of an edition of this text from around 1994. Mother Angelica - The Remarkable Story of a Nun- Her Nerve- and a Network of Miracles

5 stars (The Return of Orthodox Catholicism) - This is an exciting, well written book, something that I was not expecting at all. I began watching and contributing to EWTN during a difficult period of my life and Mother Angelica's network is a blessing to all, but especially those who are going through hard times. This book is a terrific read about how it all came about and it spends a lot of time on her battles with certain members of the American Church hierarchy - many of whom were exposed in the 2002 sex scandals for their less-than-Catholic actions and unconscionable lack of leadership. Mother Angelica is the primary figure in the ongoing renaissance of orthodox Catholicism among the laity and, equally important, in the seminaries. Mother Angelica and EWTN are providing wonderful tools for taking back our Church from what Raymond Arroyo (charitably) calls the "progressives" in the USCCB and their bureaucracies. What a wonderful book! It makes me ready to join the fight! 5 stars (BUY THIS BOOK) - This is one of the most exciting, well written biographies to come out in a very long time. Its about an underprivileged woman who became a cloistered nun and changed the world. Mother Angelica is a woman who somehow balanced real orthodoxy with brilliant management vision and skill without what seems any worldly qualifications whatsoever. Moreover, here's is a story of overcoming great suffering -- both physical and emotional -- and allowing God to transform her life without ever looking back or counting the cost. (It's worth noting too this is no saccharine sweet nun's story, to be sure!) This wonderful biography really shows us she is "The Patron Saint of CEOs" -- and patron of anyone else who by God's grace, must overcome a legion of what seem like insurmountable problems. 4 stars (Not Her Best Work) - While I personally think that Angela Knight could write a phone book & make it sexy, I wasn't that thrilled with this latest work. Mercenaries is a compilation of three related short stories that center around members of the mercenery starship Starrunner. The first story features Capt. Nathan August & his whirlwind love affair with religious planet cult member, Trinity Yeager. Trin is willing to to do anything to get off the zealots colony - including taking the captain up on his drunken bargain of passage in exchange for a night with both himself and Sebastion, his first officer, at the same time. Quickly following is Sebastions story of falling head over heals for a dominant/submissive princess while the Starrunners merceneries are on a rescue mission.He's there bait, their spy to get into the palace. But can he handle being a submissive? Or does his captor really want to be captivated? Lastly is the story of a female mercenery from Starrunner who made a cameo appearance in the first short story. During an interplanetary war where merceneries have been hired on both sides, Cassidy is embattled in a deadly dogfight against an opposing mercenery warrior. In a last ditch effort at survival she ditches onto a lonely planet only to be followed by her pursuer. When Rune sees that the impressive warrior is a woman he decides that in his culture - where women are scarce- she would make a perfect edition to his future gene pool. All the stories had a spark & related well, but I just couldn't buy the concept that all 3 couples were ready to push their different cultures aside & marry after just 24 hours - 3 weeks. Real life is a little more complicated.
