Professional Practice for Interior Designers- 3rd Edition

5 stars (Get It!) - This book reads like a friend whispering all the good advice and secrets of the interior design business in your ear. I wish my Professional Practices class had used this text. It's a lot of information but Christine Piotrowski truly takes you by the hand and lets you know what you need to prepare for in a budding interior design business as well as how the interior design business is done in general. I will be referencing this book again and again. Perspective for Interior Designers

5 stars (Friendly) - I really like the book!... The content of this book it's easy to understand. 4 stars (Very Helpful) - This is a great book to have. Easy reading, nice illustrations, great information. 5 stars (Worth every penny! A must have for anyone who renders) - This book takes perspective to another level. I have been taught perspective before with 1, 2, and/ or 3 vanishing points, so I thought that I knew what I was doing. But sometimes I just had to eyeball some of the perspective in my drawings, because objects would look too distorted. This book showed me what I was doing (and taught at art school) that was acceptable but not perfect. Within the first few pages, I easily learned the correct rules to doing perspective from a floor plan at any point of view that I choose. I am a graphic designer for retail interiors and " Perspective for Interior Designers " has made my life so much easier. It's very easy to understand and follow...a must have! ...

Graphic Guide to Frame Construction - Details for Builders and Designers

5 stars (Framing) - This is a wonderful addition to any collection of carpentry books. Good clear explanations, precise drawings, and a great resource for experts and novice alike. 5 stars (EXCELLENT RESOURCE BOOK) - i am a 3rd year arch. student with some minimal understanding of general wood construction.Coming from a design oriented school they dont really teach any practical knowledge of the field but i personally think that i need to know some of it to get myself prepared, even before i graduate.This book helps a lot.It has a lot of information regarding the common practices we find outside with adequate amount of details to make you understand.Picture is worth a thousand words and this book is all about that.You do need to have some basic knowledge though to fully understand.The only con i would consider is that scope is only limited to typical residential wood construction.For project details of bigger size and greater complexity you need to look further. 3 stars (It's Ok, There are Better Books) - It is all about graphics in this book, a method of presenting that I enjoy but it needs some text and why behind those graphs. There are much better references out there on the subject than this book. ...

Better Homes and Gardens Home Designer Suite 6

1 stars (Does not meet expectations) - I was buying this tool to plan and finish my basement. My handicap might be that I am used to CAD systems and had certain expectations. Here is my summary: 1. You can quickly draft an outline and modify the dimensions of the wall by dragging. But even simpler tools allow me to modify the dimensions just by clicking and changing the dimensioning values... cumbersome and not very intuitive 2. The outer wall exists as well as the insulation. Entering a frame with just one side of drywall? No Chance... unless you spend a factor x8 in price and buy the pro version --> Material list becomes pretty useless 3. Plumbing / enter preinstalled plumbing? No chance ... unless you buy the pro version 4. Walls not as high as the room to cover horizontal / vertical plumbing? No chance ... unless... 5. I put the window in the outer wall and added the drywall. In order to see the window I needed to add another window at the same place. Material list becomes useless and so on.... Summary: You must have pretty low expectations when you buy this tool. Or you want to spend $ 450 for the pro version. IMHO the videos are good for complete new construction projects but not for a finishing. The SW is not very intuitve. The only good thing is the pretty good visualization and the 3D rendering. I for my part finished the drawings in another low cost system and will sell this SW very likely again. 1 stars (How can something with such a nice package be so bad?) - If they would put as much effort into a user-friendly software as they did in the fancy-looking package, maybe this would be a product worth buying. I have tried to use this product several times and the truth is it is just not good. What really disappoints me is the reviews I saw from "experts" saying this is one of the best products on the market. Who paid these people off? 4 stars (Like Cliff Notes for Furniture!) - This book has brief history lessons on furniture from the begining of time! It's a great reference when you need an answer about a design period- quick! High Fashion Sewing Secrets from the World-s Best Designers - A Step-By-Step Guide to Sewing Stylish

4 stars (Glad I bought it) - This book has been very helpful in my struggle to break out of beginning sewing. It helps the reader construct garments on a much more professional level. And it helps you to alter existing patterns to create your own design ideas as well as make your own patterns from scratch. I don't know if this would be really useful for someone who is very advanced in his or her sewing skills, but for someone like me it's a huge eye opener and a great introduction to pattern drafting. 3 stars (Expected alot more than received) - being a fasion student in America I look for any resource that I can find pertaining to real Haute Couture, but this book was a real disappointment. It basically has everything that I've already learned expect for the roses thats a pretty good idea. But for home sewers its absolutely PERFECT! Home sewers will really get alot of experence from this book. 5 stars (transformed me from a beginner to a confident sewer) - I bought this book about 6 months ago and read it from cover to cover. I was fascinated, but I didn't want to write a review until I had actually tried some of the techniques. Well, I've done the piped pockets, the bias cvered seams, and I'm working on the flounce collar (which happens to be fashionable again), and they look pretty good!! But worth all the money, are the pages on manipulating patterns. With commercial patterns costing well over $10 today, this book enables you to play with what is already in your collection. Before this, I was a slave to the pattern companies, but now, I know how to make what I want. I eliminated a waist seam on a jumper for my daughter, and created an unusual skirt by combining two patterns.
