4 stars (Best photo editor in this price range but not worth upgrading from 3.0) - I read many reviews for software. I always read the worst reviews first and take what people say with a grain of salt. In reading reviews for Photoshop Elements, I see many people giving this program lackluster reviews. Not based on the software's capability, but based on its lack of additional features over previous installments or the program's speed. I hope to address what others have said and help you make a decision on whether to buy this program based on its attributes and your needs. Let me make it clear by saying that Elements is an excellent, if not the best photo editor in its price range. Although the price and features in this program may be more than the average person with a digital camera may need, I feel this program is an excellent choice for all types of users. Be advised, this program has a steeper learning curve than many other photo editors. In addition to that, expect to spend $30-$40 for a book to learn how to use many editing features in Elements if you are not already familiar with it. Adobe has included it's excellent Photo Organizer in Elements 3 & 4. What's important to realize is that the organizer is a nice way to keep track of and view all your photos, but it's not what you would want to use for quickly viewing an occasional photo here and there. (When I double click an image file I want it open within a second or two.) It takes approximately 10-15 seconds for the elements organizer to load on my laptop if it's not resident in the computers memory. (Longer or shorter based on computer's hardware of course, but probably not too much shorter.) This is why many people complain about the speed of the program and the reason I don't recommend associating elements with many of your image file types. Use a viewer to view and elements to organize and edit! I don't have an issue with loading time because I only use it to organize and edit. When I open... 3 stars (Also had sound problems) - Loved the game, but ours also had a sound problem. The sentances would cut off. That's a problem if your child cannot read the clues at the bottom. 1 stars (Be aware - This program will not run on Macintosh OS X) - I purchased this product because the system requirements stated it ran on OS X. Once I went to load it, I found out that you must have Classic 9 installed on your computer to run the game. If you don't have Classic 9, the game will not run. OS X users should save their money! 2 stars (Sound problems) - My son loves I Spy Fantasy and Haunted House. We were very excited about Treasure Hunt. But much to our dismay, the program has a sound problem. The voice over cuts off before the end of the sentence or discription. Fortunately, my son already had experience with the other programs so he wasn't totally frustrated. ... 4 stars (I was amazed what I could do with this product) - I have no background in graphics or art and the extent of my PC graphics experience stopped at MS Paint. I found myself in a situation where I needed some graphics done but didn't have budget to get them done professionally. So I purchased PSP and had a go. I was amazed at what I could produce in such a short period of time. Within a few hours I was applying fading effects to images and making montages out of several images. Very cool. I did find the product a challenge to use though. A big part of the problem was that I didn't know the terminology. I would think of an effect I wanted to do, like "fade", but wouldn't know the correct terminology to search for e.g. "mask". But if you are a little more patient than me (not hard) then this shouldn't be a problem. The help is pretty good but I found that more often I used some of the many PSP "how to" web sites out there. There are lots of good sites out there if you are in a hurry. The program also seems to be a bit slow to load but I'm not sure how this compares to other graphics programs. Overall, I'm very impressed with PSP and consider it a great bargain. 5 stars (PSP is great!) - I have never had the full version, but I have had a trial. I've also had a photoshop trial, but I find that psp is much faster to learn and is easier to use. With photoshop, however, I believe it is sometimes slow. I do think that paint shop pro is a great program to use than photoshop. Sure, photoshop has a few extra things psp doesn't, but some of you may not use it. so psp is the best program I can recommend. MSPaint is another great program, but you can always edit those images made on there in psp! :) 4 stars (Great program) - Love computers and love photography and this program is at a good price with some pretty high tech tools. 4 stars (One of Their Greatest Games) - This is one of herinteractive's best games. However i finished it only 2-3 days. I think it should have lasted 1 more day (on the jr. level). Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon is great other wise. I really like it. The ending/ culprit is really shocking and the puzzles (Pipe) were really cool. So, if u like all of the other games, get this one too!!! 4 stars (Great Game for All Ages!) - This game was definitely not what I thought it would be. I was expecting a really easy game, mostly geared toward young kids and something I may be bored with. Not the case... THE GOOD STUFF 1. The characters - the mannerisms and the personalities of the characters were great. I loved the phone chat with George & Bess. 2. The puzzles - they had just enough challenge to keep you on your toes. It stumped me at one point which actually made me happy. They had just the right amount of serious puzzles and fun ones so you couldn't get completely frustrated. 3. The graphics - A+! I was afraid they wouldn't be as good of quality but I was wrong. The detail was pretty darn good for a game geared towards young kids. The mine ride was the most realistic I have ever seen in a computer game. THE NOT SO GOOD STUFF 1. The length of the game. I'm sure they know what they are doing when it comes to timing the game to keep kids attention but I thought the plot could have gone on a little more. 2. The HARDYS. Ok, they're cute and all but seriously I got a little miffed that they got to sit around while I (as Nancy) did all the work. 3. Locations. I thought that they could have expanded on the areas a little more. I would have liked to travel to a few more places before ending the game. Also I think the train should have had more rooms to explore. A lot of time was wasted trying to see if the doors in the sleeper car opened. This was the first Nancy Drew game I have ever played and after this, it's definitely NOT the last. 5 stars (Can't fail with Nancy ... 5 stars (Best of what I've seen) - If you want a good security progam that's not a resrouce hog this is the best of what I've seen. I had a prior version Norton Internet Security and was very pleased with it. I ignored poor reviews and complaints about recent versions of NIS and upgraded when the older version was no longer supported. I should have heeded the reviews as all their problem became mine. It noticeably slows down your computer, your email, your web browsing...and has applicaiton errors when you shutdown/log off windows. After one month I took a risk and purchased Zone Alarm 2006 and have been extremely pleased. No, it's not "perfect" but it works well, actually seems to catch things NIS didn't and it doesn't slow down the computer (noticeably better performance than NIS). Like NIS it does occassionaly have some program errors when shutting down or logging off...but **much** fewer than NIS..and I think they only occur after the pc has hibernated (which seems to be a common issue with a lot of software). The alerts that ZA pop up whenever a program first attempts to access the internet (or ZA when suspects it could compromise security) are probably excessive and somewhat cryptic for the average user....but you can tell ZA to not ask you again. And you get use to the alerts...and these days it's far better to have a security program have a few too many of these alerts than to just assume. As a web programmer I have to use McAfee at work and it's such a hog I always have to commit the sin of turnning it off whenever I'm doing anything complex (big program builds, installs). Everybody likes something different for different reasons. I mainly want a product to work..and to not cause grief to my computer, other programs or my work. ZA 2006 definitely meets all these requirements and has won me over. 1 stars (Stay Away!) - This software reduced my computer to a grinding halt. 4 stars (i liked it) - star wars battle front is one of the best games that have been made on Ps2. It is not only fro star wars fans, it is also a great shoot em up game with heaps of different weapns and players to play as,worth paying the money for. 4 stars (The best Star Wars game I've played yet) - Star Wars Battlefront is a great game, despite a few minor flaws. Out of all the Star Wars titles I've played, it is by far the best. It offers all of the gameplay styles of the past Star Wars games, including battle on the aerial, vehicle, and soldier levels. You can fight as four sides on planets such as Bespin, Geonosis, Hoth, Endor, and Kashyyyk (One course, Rhen Var, was only in one short scene of Episode 3). The targeting and radar systems are good enough, but the missile lock-on systems are somewhat hard to use. You can fight as four sides, each with benefits and downsides. Rebels: While the Rebellion lacks some of the firepower of the Empire, they have the best starfighters in the entire game. Their special unit, the Wookie Smuggler, can drop time bombs and shoot several enemies at once. Empire: One of the best features of the Imperials is the ability to play as walkers- including the AT-AT, which can be used on Hoth and Rhen Var. Republic: This group focuses mostly on heavy weapons, with armored tanks, walkers, and gunships at their disposal. They are very similar to the Imperials, but have better starfighters. CIS (Trade Federation): Their vehicles are some of the worst in the game, but they make up for it with their droid soldiers. For the first time ever, you can play as the lethal Droideka, also known as the Destroyer Droid, from Episode 1. There are only two real downsides to this game. The first is that you can only battle within your side's Era. For example, the Rebellion can not fight the CIS in a battle. Also, every mode of gameplay is almost exactly the same- you must kill enemy soldiers and capture their Command Posts - so the game can get r... 5 stars (Simsational!) - In truth, The Sims 2 is the best PC game ever. I was a HUGE fan of the original Sims, and it was my favorite game for quite awhile. However, I recently aquired The Sims 2 , and I must say, I was so excited over it I couldn't sleep. It is a grand improvement over the original, and it opened my eyes to the number of flaws that the first Sims game had. Quite honestly, I don't know if I'll ever be able to play it again. Here are just a few of the high points: ~In The Sims 2 , players have an incredibly large, extensive amount of features, clothes, hairstyles, etc. to choose from when they create their Sim. I'm not even going to compare it to the original because, well, it just doesn't compare! ~The addition of family trees and life cycles was what excited me most about this game, and quite frankly, it is the one thing that makes this game totally worth your money, in my opinion. Sims now age from baby to toddler to kid to teen to adult to elder, where they will eventually pass on to to old age, depending on there aspiration level. It's a great joy to see your Sims start out as babies and end up as successful, married adults, and I was just as proud of my Sims as I would be with my own child...not that I would know anything about that. ~Aspirations and fears give the game a whole new meaning. Your Sims can have one of five different aspirations: Wealth, Romance, Family, Knowledge, and Popularity. Depending on which of these your Sim has, they will have different lifetime hopes and fears, which change periodically. When an aspiration is realized, Sims gain reward points that they can use to buy cool things; when a fear is realized, however, Sims lose reward points. ~The Build/Buy options are FAR more improved. Now you can make homes that have more than three stories, change the appearance of that ugly blue bed, create mountains, lakes, whatever! ~The neighborhood options are different too. 5 stars (Awesome!) - This game is the best of the best. There are many new objects and activities; too many to list. Between driving their own car and bowling, there is not enough hours in the day for my sims to maintain relationships or work. LOL! The best part is the increased control over your date when you are out together. This is a must-have game for anyone who loves the sims! 5 stars (OMGOMGOMG!!!~shauna~) - im not really under 13 but ya. okay i just got the sims 2 nightlife a week ago and it's been awesome. some people were saying that it was lame, really slow, and had lots of bugs. i was wondering whether or not i should install it, because my computer is already slow at loading the game, i don't want to make it even SLOWER. but i took the risk and installed it. boy was that a good idea! this game rox my sox! so far, no problems! the game hasn't had any bugs (knocks on wood) and seems to even LOAD faster (knocks on wood again). okay well lemme tell u bout some of the awesome features! they have cars! sure there's only five different cars to chose from (a crappy small one, a truck, a mini van, a sports car, and a compact), but the paint jobs make it all worth it! they have awesome paint jobs too, or in my opinion anyways ;). uhhhhhh, the new clothes. if there's a part of expansions i look most forward to, it has to be the clothes. the adult girls have the best selection. they are suhweet! really awesome dresses. there is some gay-ish clothes for the guys, tho. like electric colored vests.. kinda weird :D. the fact that they can have dates! i made two people, and had them go on dates, and now they're married! they've already gone on 4 or 5 dates, and all of them have been dream dates too, which is awesome. they have some really funny options when you're dining out: play: throw food, steal a bite Flirt: feed a bite, caress hand Kiss: blow a kiss... if you're in a booth: those plus Hot Kiss, and Love Talk. there's lots more things... 4 stars (boring after you beat it) - First off, I don't have this game. I dont want to get this game. I bought Sly 1 and 2. I finished both of them. The problem is, you cant do anything after you beat the game. If there was multiplayer, I wouldn't have sold those games. I'd rent it. Its worth $40 if there was multiplayer or online play 5 stars (A great Game Trilogy Overall!) - I love the new locations in this new game! You get to go to Venice, China, a pirate island, Holland, and Dr. M's island, a baboon mad scientist who is the final boss in Sly 3. My favorite boss is General Tsao, the chinese rooster who looks very cool but very hard to defeat. China is my favorite level, because it's the largest level in the game. My least favorite boss is Dr. M, because he relys on his big machine on his brain that releases fire and all that bad stuff. Dr. M's Island is my least favorite level, because you can't travel around the whole island. The only complaint I have from the game are those boring, but pretty hard 2-D computer shooter mini-games. Those are just wasting my time! Isn't there an alternative way to these 2-D shooters? Anyways, i hope there is a 4th Sly game where Sly pretends to be in love with CArmelita, but goes out theiving when she doesn't know it. This would be a great beginning for the 4th Sly game to the end of the 3rd Sly game! 5 stars (The Best Sly Yet) - Sly2 was worlds above Sly1, and Sly3 made the franchise even better. The game is extremely long, pretty challenging (especially near the end), and has replayable levels with "Master Thief" extras like beating the clock, etc. The "Master Thief" levels are very difficult, IMO and I've only been able to do a few of them, but it makes the game still fun to play. I finished it yesterday--one of the few games that I actually finish. Be prepared for an excruciating level boss run at the end. Totally worth every curse word out of my mouth :) You'll be glad you have this game. ... 5 stars (The Best I Spy Computer Game) - I have played almost all of the I Spy computer games with my 3-year-old son (with the exception of I Spy: Spooky Mansion) and I Spy: Fantasy is the best one, in my opinion. While all the games have puzzles of comparable quality, this one has the best graphics and overall gameplay. I Spy: Fantasy features several adventures that you can play (underwater, moonbase, dragon adventure). The length of each adventure is just right, unlike the one big adventure in I Spy: Treasure Hunt, which I felt was too long. After you solve all the riddles, you have to go back and perform a few tasks to solve the overall mission. These extra tasks delay gratification, but not for too long: they are easy and increase the feeling of accomplishment that comes with completing the adventure. If you're new to the series, I Spy: Fantasy is a great first one to try. My son started playing these games with me when he was two-and-a-half years old. They have been a great way for him to learn new words and to develop his visual-observation skills. Sometimes he finds the objects by himself; other times I tell him where to look or explain to him the word that goes with a particular word. He points to the object and he clicks the left button on my laptop. For 2-4 year olds, I also recommend I Spy Junior: Puppet Playhouse, probably my second favorite in the series. The objects in Puppet Playhouse are easier for a preschooler to find, and the game is obviously geared a bit more for that age range, though the general gameplay is basically the same. 5 stars (Great Game) - Now days when kids have so many toys and most of them become junk next day, this is something definetely woth buying. It's a true brain builder and can keep your child involved, teaching patience and concentration. 5 stars (An unbelievably touching book) - I originally bought this book for the sole reason that Marian and i were childhood friends who grew up on the same street together in Staten Island. I knew of Dave's death shortly after 9/11 and kept Marian and her family in my thoughts daily. I knew Marian was gifted but was totally unprepared for how much this book would touch me and change my life. I now view the people i love in a different way. Her book was beautiful and so well written. I felt like i can somewhat understand what all of these brave people went through both firefighters and their families, in the wake of 9/11. 5 stars (More than a Memoir) - To be honest, I am generally not a fan of memoirs of this type. I mean yes this is a woman who suffered a profound tragedy but does this mean she can write? Well, after devouring it's nearly 450 pages in a couple of sittings, I think it can be said, that Marian Fontana is a writer. A damn good one. She deserves not only to have her story told but to tell it herself. This is both an honest and humorous look at the grieving process as well as a fascinating piece of history. Fontana's account of how she and her some of her fellow widows organized and stood up not only for 911 victims and their families, but for firemen themselves, gives us an inside look at just how these men who perform the most dangerous and lauded of work, are basically treated like crap. There is something very special about this book and just how close it puts you to the incredilby profound grief that enveloped Ms. Fontana's life. Yet, I never really felt sorry for her because I don't think she allows the reader to do that. She is a strong person yet she admits her flaws, thus making her even stronger. This is a must read for anyone interested in 9-11 as well as anyone interested in grief, love and loss. 5 stars (Sharply observed and moving) - One of the memorable images seared into the world's consciousness on September 11, 2001 was ... I am an investigator and have begun using iListen to dictate my interview summaries. It has lived up to my expectations. The enrolling process of learning your voice has been effective as has the correction process (though the correction process is fairly time consuming). I have also created a profile to use with my Olympus voice recorder, which is working fairly well too. The only draw back is the difficulty that the program has in recognizing last names, but I expect that will improve with usage. The training manual is worth printing out so that you can use it as a reference while you're dictating. I also had excellent customer service as the CD Rom that came with the package was defective. The company e-mailed me a downloadable version of the program within a day. 1 stars (iListen does not run on Mac OS X 10.3.9) - Just an awful product. Support is NONEXISTENT! (They have the nerve to charge $30.00 for technical support- per incident- for help with the garbage they've sold you. Perhaps the only way to actually get help but they weren't getting another dime out of me) I can't believe what's happened with this company. Three years ago it was all we used in our offices (and me at home). Honestly, this has been the worst experience I've ever had with any software. My other four computers have McAfee (no problems). One came with Norton AntiVirus preinstalled so I purchased the (same) firewall. Needless to say they BOTH went! Never again! Just hearing the word "Norton" gives me hives- 1 stars (Unusable) - My new Dell came with this pre-installed. It kept crashing until I removed Norton Personal Firewall, it hasn't crashed since. A client just called, they installed NPF on their computers and killed their entire office network. I'm off to fix that now. 1 stars (Poorly documented, extremely unstable, impractical.) - I'll try and stay fairly objective about this. It will be difficult. I installed this on a brand spanking new Win2K SP4 machine. Here is what I've experienced. 1. Poor to no support documentation for this product, either included or on their web site. 2. Default security policy is not adequate. I've installed server apps that the wizard interface said were reccomended safe, which I know darned well aren't. ( therefore requiring rule customization for the apps to work correctly) 3. Adding even basic firewall rules crashes this product, HARD. 4. 4 stars (Could be better) - This game could be better.when i got it for Christmas i played it with my step sister and cousin, and i'll say we finished it in about 20 to 30 minutes.THE WHOLE GAME!!!its fun,but isnt very long, thats why i gave it 4 stars. 3 stars (Blah) - For $20 I thought this would be something a bit more. The "adventure" is a bit boring and doesn't change much each time you play it. The navigation is quite poor compared to other games. Plus there's quite a bit of stutter on some of the vocals (I run a fairly fast machine with 768MB of RAM so I know it's not that). All in all, three stars may be a bit much, but my daughter likes it and I guess that's all that counts. 4 stars (Great For Younger Girls) - For young girls (6-10) just starting with an interest in "Mystery" games, this would be fun and entertaining. Small challenges - not too difficult, but skill-building for younger - make this interesting, but are too easy for more advanced game players. The graphics are okay, even though a bit stiff and cartoonish. Horse-loving girls will enjoy "selecting" their mount (including coat and mane color) and the opportunity to groom, feed and ride. You also get to choose Barbie's outfit and the style/color of your saddle and bridle. 5 stars (Great Mapping Program!) - MapPoint is an easy to use and powerful mapping program. I use it frequently for territory analysis for work and also use it for some personal reference and mapping projects. Defintely worth buying. 2 stars (Microsoft MapPoint 2004) - I purchased this product thinking that after using and enjoying MS Streets and Trips (since 2001), that this would be a step up. I was also looking for additional features that I knew were a bit weak in the Streets and Trips product. Boy, was I surprised. Not only is the product, no better than the Streets and Trips product, but the maps for small Canadian cities (ie.,populations of 35,000 to 100,000) were so out of date they were useless. Where I had hoped to use the enhanced features of MapPoint in my business, the abyssmal road maps made the product useless. I had hoped to also track the location of our deliveries to customers within the city and surrounding towns. Again, this was not possible due to the fact that the maps were at least 3 to 4 years out of date. Had I paid only $39.99 to $59.99 for the product, I may have kept it for use when I travel to the U.S., but for $400, I returned to product within the week (the very first Microsoft product I have ever been dissappointed with). MapPoint 2004 is a very, very marginal product and most definitely not worth paying $400 or even half that price, given the poor map qualities. I'm really dissappointed in Microsoft and their lack of attention to details and accuracy for Canadian towns and cities. Unless you are using it for U.S. locations only, do NOT purchase this product. Having said this, I continue to purchase a lot of Microsoft products,(I continue to use MS Streets and Trips), but this purchase proves that even Microsoft can put out a dud. 1 stars ($269 for this GARBAGE?) - I wouldn't pay $2.69 let alone $269.00!!!! for this dreadful program. 5 stars (All the fun of that other Strategy Game, plus battles!) - As a long-time Civ fan, I was excited about the strategic aspects of playing Rome: Total War. Then I fought my first tactical battle, and was completely enchanted. The ability to pause the game, move the camera to all sorts of angles, and the start the game again to see what happens is incredible. Wow. What the other reviewers said. The music and action on the battlefield are outstanding. I imagine I will eventually start letting the game autoresolve some of the minor battles, but right now even the small skirmishes are great fun. Kudos to CA!. 5 stars (The game I've waited for all my life...) - I'm not going to give a long description, the previous reviewers have already made many good and vaild points. This is just my short version... This is the epitome of what war game should be. The combat and empire building is challenging and rewards real tactics but the controls and methods of the game are very easy to learn. And very good graphics, which is rare in a war game. No self respecting strategy gamer should be without it...period. 5 stars (One of the Best) - I would have to say I am very impressed with Rome: Total War. I have been playing it now since it first came out and it is still amazing. If you are a fan of the Civilization series, you should switch to Rome: Total War. It blows any civ game out of the water and is by far the best in the Total War Series. It's fun to play and has great replayability value as you can be a number of different factions during the campaign mode or just choose to fight single battles. This is a very stripped down version of the Quickbooks line, but it is built to get those micro businesses out of the shoebox and rag-tag spreadsheets, and into a structured, logical format. I would highly recommend Simple Start for the following: --Small Schedule C, owner-operated businesses with no employees; --Small services businesses, and; --Those who may have an apartment building or two. Michael J. Dunton Aurora, IL 4 stars (Good for beginners, finicky interface) - I like QuickBooks basic because it does everything I need and is simple to use. It's help feature when deciding how to categorize expenses is good. Some things are a little difficult to get the hang of (such as how to enter invoices, etc.) but it does a lot and is worth the price if you need to organize your small business finances. 4 stars (Very simple but very limited) - This is as advertised. Super simple to get started with accounting for a very basic business. It took about 5-10 minutes to load, walked me through half a dozen basic questions, and was ready to start taking bank account entries and categorize them. I was also able to set up a business credit card to track expenses there and enter things very easily. The simplicity however comes with a real lack of flexibility for anything more involved. Within the first 30 mintues I was already noticing features missing that I would like, and found myself needing to upgrade to a more complete version of Quickbooks. For instance, expenses are only single level -- you can't have subcategories for expenses. Credit card entries can't have memo fields to remind you what the expense was (checks can however). Etc. I imagine if you have a business with a very limited set of vendors and customers, and you have little need to categorize your expenses in too complicat... 4 stars (I Love Horses) - I've been looking at this game for some time and finally bought it. I'm not sorry. I really like the game. I found that my horses have different abilities like some would rather not jump and some are better at the cross country. The area around the farm that you are aloud to ride in is fairly small but then you also have the four coarses you can practice on as well. There is also alittle interactiveness with some characters in the game that makes it a little bit more interesting. I find that having 5 horses to care for is quite difficult and can get a little borring. I can spend 30 minutes just in cleaning stalls and careing for the horses, but if you don't go to bed (in the game) you don't have to clean the stalls all the time, but if you want to compete in competetions then you need to go to bed to make the time pass. (a rock and a hard place). My horses seem to be getting sick frequetly and I'm not sure why at this piont. This is upsetting because you cannot ride when the horse is sick. Over all this game has been quite fun. I don't have a horse and probably wont beable to get one so this is fitting the bill for the moment. I recommend this game to horse lovers. 4 stars (Pretty good) - good game, but some people are saying in their reviews that they cant pick out the hooves. What do you do in real life, class?YOU GO UP AND DOWN!!SAME IN THE GAME!!!It gets anoyying though, because if you dont take care of a horse,it gets sick. The wheel thing is hard,my friend who i loaned it to cant even get past it!!!Pretty good game, though. 5 stars (Love this game) - I love this game soooooo much when i first got this game it was hard but then it got really fun hope they come out with more. ...
